Week long indie-film and music festival. While there are hundreds of bands on the official SXSW play list there are also hundreds of independent bands off the play list.

Bat Watching (Congress Avenue Bridge)

Every summer night see the world's largest urban bat colony emerge from under the Congress Avenue Bridge (downtown Austin). These 1.5 million bats are fun to watch, but they're also making our world a better place to live. We recommend seeing the bats emerge from a kayak or canoe you can either rent one on Lady Bird Lake (formerly Town Lake). Kayak/canoe stores in Austin also rent and also offer tours.

Zilker Hillside Theater

Hosts the Zilker Summer Musical and Shakespeare in the Park. Outdoor ‘picnic” like seating, first come first seared. Bring chairs if you want to sit. The 2008 play list is not released yet.
